Johnson and the other members of the U.S. national sprint team will compete for medals and Olympic spots at the event in Szeged, Hungary, starting on Thursday.
The World Championships and the 2011 Pan American Games are currently the only two events in which Team USA can qualify boats for the London Games.
"The team focus for this year's World Championships is qualifying as many boats possible for the 2012 Olympic Games," said Pat Dolan, who will compete in the K4 1000m.
National team coach Guy Wilding has high expectations for Johnson and Kriszta Zur.
"In sprint canoe, the Olympic qualification process is extremely tough and this is without a doubt the toughest regatta since 2007," Wilding said in a statement released by USA Canoe/Kayak. "The 2011 World Cups were a rebuilding phase for USA Canoe/Kayak. But based on their great World Cup results this year, both Carrie Johnson and Kriszta Zur should fare well at this year's World Championships."
